Paarl cooks Eagles'goose

THE old adage “form is temporary but class is permanent”, rang true this weekend when the Paarl Soccer Club thrashed Glen Eagles of Stellenbosch 5-1 in the Castle League play-off encounter at Boy Louw.
Paarl matched up to the top-flight visitors in every department and pressure in the 11th minute led to the goalkeeper missing a back-pass which ensured the first goal for the home side.
It was as if this was the cue that the home side had been looking for and relentless attack led to Leroy Prins netting the second goal of the first half.
The home team increased the pressure in the second half and further goals were scored by Ozane Davids, Prins and Johan Adams.
Other players who shone in their respective positions were veteran defender Abe Keet, Anthony Chapman (midfielder) and Ridewaan Behardien (right half).
Despite a small blunder which led to the visitors’ only goal, goalkeeper Shamir Davids received the man of the match award for his astute and gutsy display in the goal mouth.
Paarl II had a 3-2 victory over Carterville United in their Drakenstein LFA Premier division match. Scorers for Paarl were Marshall Manyonga and Duane de Waal.
