NINE employees of KWV were dismissed in the first week of July following internal disciplinary action in connection with liquor theft.

“KWV is committed to legal and ethical business practices and expects the same from its employees,” said Willem Bestbier, MD of KWV South Africa.

“However, as it is a confidential internal matter no further information can be made public.”

Kitchen staff of the Paarl Police College were more fortunate.

* Fourteen members of the kitchen staff of the Paarlberg hostel in Sanddrift Street, who were accused of stealing food, have been given a slap on the wrist, after pleading guilty to the charges.

The case arose after senior staff at the college suspected that food had been disappearing from the kitchen at the hostel.

Hidden cameras were installed and fourteen staff members were caught red-handed helping themselves to kichen supplies.

The workers were each fined R500. Should any of them commit the same crime within the next six months, they will immediately be dismissed, a spokesperson said.
