Still waiting for ID
2005-04-21
I READ with interest the letter from a reader asking why ID documents take so long to obtain.
On 7 August 2002 my wife applied for South African citizenship at Paarl’s Home Affairs office.
She started to give up hope, when on 9 December 2003 she received a letter from the Director General with a certificate declaring that she is a South African citizen - but no ID book.
Since December 2003 and to date, Home Affairs has called her to retake her fingerprints three times.
There must be a valid reason why Pretoria keeps returning the application as unacceptable.
Do we have to do as follow? * Go to the Guinness Book of Records, * Go to Ripley’s Believe it or not or * Go to Debra Patta on Third Degree to get an answer.
Two years and seven months we are waiting for a new ID - what a pathetic state of “affairs”.
