House dispute

House dispute

2006-07-27

THREE brothers recently protested at the Mbekweni housing office over their rights to a family unit in B-block, Mbekweni.

Michael Ndlovu alleges that he and his two brothers, Boy and Mzamo, had been living in hostel B118 since 1990, but when the hostel was changed to family units in 1994, they were forcefully evicted and the unit was given to Livingstone Mphiti.

Michael also claims that he and his brothers should have been given occupational rights to B118 and they now demand these rights.

When Mphiti passed away on 22 March this year, the house B118 was transferred to his wife, Phumla, and in her absence, the Ndlovu brothers reoccupied the hostel.

They were recently evicted by the police for illegal occupation.

A municipal spokesperson said that when the hostels changed to family units, a policy was installed that units would be allocated to people who had arrived there first and who were in possession of a rent card.
