2006-07-27
AS part of the furtherance of skills development in agriculture, the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the wine industry (represented by SAWIT), offers five previously disadvantaged people from the wine industry the opportunity to gain international experience in the management and maintenance of barrels, with special emphasis on the influence of wood (barrels) on wine quality.
The selected applicants will visit Beaune, France, from 13 to 25 November, all expenses paid. Candidates will be exposed to the manufacturing and maintenance of wooden barrels by attending lectures, visiting cellars and practical training.
After the two weeks the candidates will obtain a Beaune CFPPA (Centre de Formation Professionnelle et de Promotion Agricole) certificate.
To qualify for the programme, candidates must have passed grade 10, not have post-matric qualifications, and must have at least two years of experience in cellar work, preferably with wooden barrels.
Also required is experience in wine-tasting or knowledge of different types of wines and an acceptable level of competency in English.
The shortlist candidates will be invited for an interview. Contact Hermien Fourie at 808-5468 or 082-882-8713 if you rewure more information.
