Heavy sentence for dagga

A FIRST offender has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment for dealing in dagga.
Mfundo Nkwahla (25) was arrested after dagga was discovered in his home in Ntambanani Street, Wellington.
The dagga was stashed in a large black bag as well as in plastic buckets and bank bags ready for sale.
After receiving information about dagga transportation between Transkei and Paarl, Insp Alroy Julies of the Paarl Dog Unit and his dog Oz searched the house at 02:50 on 25 April.
Mbekweni Detective Constable Vuyani Baroyi, investigated the case and Chris Daniels prosecuted.
Magistrate Antoinette Vermooten sentenced Nkwahla to five years' imprisonment, of which three years were suspended for a further five years.
* A teenager dressed in a Boys' High school uniform, was arrested for possession of dagga at Umnyama Street, Mbwekweni, on 19 July.
Police, acting on information from the public, found a 22kg bag of dagga, as well as smaller packets, hidden under the seventeen-year-old boy’s bed in the family’s shack.
The teenager was released into his parents’ care when he appeared in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court last week. Police investigation continues.
