A NEW water treatment plant and reservoir for the Berg Water Project is planned in the Muldersvlei/Joostenberg area by the Bulk Water Department of the City of Cape Town.

The findings of the Draft Environmental Impact Report will be available for public review at the libraries in Paarl, Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, Bellville, Durbanville and Cape Town from 4 August to 25 August.

The findings include the appropriate siting of future bulk water supply infrastructure relating to the Berg Water Project as well as the alignment of the pipelines from the dam to the treatment plant.

The site has been selected for its elevation, which will ensure enough water pressure.

The sloping site required will be approximately 120 000 square metres in size (treatment plant) and 90 000 square metres (300 Ml reservoir) and will be purchased from the landowner(s).

The pipeline from the Berg River Dam will run west of the Paarl /Simondium road, passing under the N1 near Klapmuts. The project is scheduled for completion by 2010.
