Roads close for new off-ramp
2005-04-21
ROAD works for the construction of an off-ramp and an on-ramp on the N1 at Cecelia Street in Paarl South will commence next week. Roads in the vicinity will be closed from tomorrow or Monday for six months.
An off- and on-ramp will be built from the N1 connecting to Cecelia street, supported by a reinforced earth wall. To allow for the off-ramp, New Vlei Street will become a cul de sac at house number 40.
Arboretum Avenue will be realigned away from the N1 west of the Berg River, joining Cecelia Street by means of a traffic circle at the entrance to the new mall.
Minor upgrades will be done at the intersection of Arboretum with Jan van Riebeeck Drive, and the intersection of Cecelia Street with Berg River Boulevard.
Roads will be closed and only residents will be allowed through the barriers.
* Arboretum Street will be closed at the intersection with Jan van Riebeeck Drive (motorists wishing to reach Cecelia Street will now have to take the N1 to Main Street or drive via Berg River Boulevard).
* Cecilia Street will be closed at the intersection with Kohler Street (to reach KWV cellar, motorists will have to travel from Main Street via Vlei Street to Jones Street).
* New Eskdale Street will be closed at the entrance of Firwoods Farm (south of the N1).
* New Vlei Street will be permanently closed at number 40. The reason for these closures is firstly to protect the public from any construction hazards and secondly because Cecelia and Arboretum Street will be undriveable while new services are laid and the new circle constructed.
Haw & Inglis has been awarded the road building contract which will be completed by September.
