THE Paarl Soccer Club gained valuable points when they played in an SAB Castle Lager fixture against FC Athletico on Thursday evening at the Boy Louw grounds.

The match was evenly contested for the first 20 minutes with both sides trying to dominate the midfield area.

Here, Paarl’s Wade Anderson and Anthony Chapman dominated with slick passing and aggressive tackling.

Paarl drew first blood when captain, Johan Adams, scored with a header in the 25th minute after a build-up of play by the side.

Paarl was determined to keep a clean sheet after a deluge of goals against them in previous matches.

Goalkeeper Martin Minnaar and central defenders Shamir Davids and Brian Crozier were impressive in this regard.

In the 33rd minute, Sivuyile Man-yonga scored Paarl’s second goal to send the teams to half-time 2-0 in the lead.

Paarl completely dominated the second half and this dominance was sealed when Ozane Davids put the last nail in the coffin with a blistering strike in the 61st minute of the match.

Anthony Chapman was named the Paarl team’s man of the match.
On Saturday, Paarl travelled to Worcester where they drew 2-2 against Double Foot Shooters.

Paarl contested heavily in a scrappy match on an uneven pitch and in windy conditions. Deon Francke scored Paarl’s first goal in the 17th minute.

Thereafter, the match became an evenly contested affair with the visitors still leading at halftime.

In the second half, the home side came back strongly after making two substitutions and duly scored to level matters.

In the 27th minute DFS took the lead after scoring from a free-kick awarded when goalkeeper Martin Minnaar handled the ball outside the 18-yard area.

Paarl equalised in the 34th minute with Anthony Chapman scoring with a header.

Matters remained even at the final whistle. Johan Adams was named man of the match for his strong defence.

Paarl clashed against Saints from Wellington on Sunday.
The Paarlites proved early dominance with captain Johan Adams scoring from a corner in the second minute. The match was evenly contested for the rest of the half.

In the second half, Paarl dominated further thanks to hard work and uncompromising tackling in the midfield through Omar Davids, Riduwaan Behardien and Anthony Chapman.

In the 22nd minute of the second half, Chapman again sealed the game for the Paarl side with a strike from 20m out.

Saints were reduced to ten men when their central defender, Jonathan Liebenberg, was sent off the field for using abusive language towards the referee.

Shamir Davids was named the man of the match for his uncompromising defence and strong all-round game.
