Mother, daughter hit by train

Mother, daughter hit by train

2006-08-31

A MOTHER and the baby in her arms died under a train after the woman sat down on the railway tracks at Klapmuts on Sunday.

The tragic incident happened at 14:00 between the Muldersvlei and Klapmuts stations, when Johanna Middelpos (23), carried her daughter, Lee-Anne (2), onto the tracks.

She sat down in front of an oncoming train. Mother and child were killed instantly.

The unemployed Johanna lived with her daughter and her mother in Remmet Street, Klapmuts.

A shocked Lea Dramat, her mother, said although Johanna had previously threatened to commit suicide, she never expected her to actually go that far.

“Johanna was angry on the afternoon of the incident. She shouted at me and a friend of hers and then she left our house, with Lee-Anne in her arms.
"That was the last time I saw them alive, and I will never see them alive again.
“I can still not believe that she would do such a thing to her baby.”
