Art changes hands
2006-09-07
AT the Give Us A Hand auction on Friday night at Laborie in Paarl, a number of exceptional works of he(art) changed hands.
While people enjoyed the splendid Spring evening over a glass of KWV, the ladies from Ahos offered hand massages to ensure a flexible hand for bidding.
Alistair Brown masterfully handled the evening’s proceedings and all the works, bar one, were sold at fair and reasonable prices.
Tertia du Toit’s pair called ‘Handgemaak vir Mekaar’ fetched the highest price, followed by Fred Liebenberg’s ‘Collective Conscience Lamp’, Frank Ross’ stunning ‘Reach Out’ hands and Alla’s ‘Engel Frans’.
Ria Olivier from Women in Wine delivered an opening address about entrepreneurial possibilities of women and urged the guests to open their hearts and hands when bidding.
More so than the money gained on Friday night was the contact and connection between artists/interested parties and Ahos and a renewed feeling of goodwill for a cause close to all of Paarl.
Any further interest can be directed to Fiona Brophy of Ahos on 872-7518.
Artists who contributed were Tilly van Huyssteen, Winnie Eaton, Jeanne Visser, Jeanne Hendriks, Mieke Henning, Alla le Roux, Nelia Schutte, Adriaan Oosthuizen, Fred Liebenberg, Elsa Valentine, Shany van den Berg and her daughter, Roche and a friend Carina Wiid, Winnie Barnard, Jeffrey Appollis, Frank Ross, Elsa Beaumont, Juanita Bezuidenhout, Tertia du Toit, Nicolaas Maritz, Christelle Bester, Janna Kruger, Charles Haupt, Andre Knoesen, Liz Lacey, Nina van der Westhuizen, Hannah Perlotto, Venita Botha and of course Domingo Fuli, the creator of the hands.
