THE local derby between the rugby clubs of Vineyards and Riverstones which came off at the Dal Josaphat Stadium on Saturday lived up to everything that was expected.

Vineyards chose to keep it physical and tight upfront, whilst Riverstones opted to play fast and adventurous rugby with their backline.

This led to an early 17-0 lead to Stones after Anwar-Shuhail Moerat (wing) was sin binned five minutes into the game for foul play.
Riverstones scored three tries in ten minutes.

Vineyards’ forwards eventually took charge and started dominating the game by doing what they know best, keeping it tight and playing with the forwards.

The 17 points in the first 20 minutes of the game was all that Riverstones could produce and Vineyards eventually won the game 27-17.

Tries for Vineyards were scored by Anwar-Shuhail Moerat (wing), Anwar Dulvie (scrumhalf), Abbas Hendricks (flank) and Zarier Nackerdien (lock). Anton Snyman (flyhalf) added seven points with the boot.

Junaid Moerat (hooker) was named man of the match for his big hits and strong runs.

Vineyards play Lower Paarl on Saturday in another local derby which is also the last game of the season.
