Restaurant robbed
2006-09-21
THREE men held up the manager of the Dros restaurant in Paarl South at gun point and robbed him of more than R7 000 on Sunday evening.
While the restaurant was busy closing up at about 10:00, one of the kitchen staff took out rubbish at the delivery entrance in the basement.
When he wanted to close the gate he was overpowered by three armed men who forced their way into the restaurant.
They proceeded directly to the restaurant’s office, which is also situated in the basement, where manager Lloyd Raubenheimer was busy cashing up the day’s takings.
The men forced him to lie down on the ground and grabbed the money before escaping through the delivery entrance.
The waiters on the upper floor were totally unaware of what had happened in the office until Raubenheimer raised the alarm.
The delivery entrance of the restaurant is equipped with hidden security cameras and these where able to capture the images of the robbers.
The owner of the Dros, Lucas van Aswegen, said that he was relieved that nobody had been injured in the incident.
Nobody has been arrested yet, but the police are following various leads.
