2006-09-28
OUT of over 4,400 wines from 33 countries that were judged by the international jury at the 2006 MunduSvini Great International Wine Awards in Germany, two local wineries walked away with one gold medal each.
The Grande Provence Estate in Franchhoek won gold for the Grande Provence Chardonnay 2004 and silver for the Grande Provence Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, while Seidelberg won gold for the Roland’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2003.
Grand gold medals were awarded to 17 wines, gold medals to 425 wines and silver medals to 988 wines.
Says Grande Provence winemaker Jaco Marais, “Not only are these great accolades for Grande Provence which also enhances staff pride, but it brings focus to tourism in the valley.”
Roland Seidel of Seidelberg commented, “Apart from the international recognition that this award gives us, it helps re-enforce our position as an award-winning Cabernet producer."
Seidelberg also received two gold and one silver award at this year’s Michelangelo International Wine Awards.
