Who will tour Germany?
2006-10-05
ON Monday the second round of the “German Tour 2007 Competition” will take place at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre Hall.
Eighteen instrumentalists will compete for a place on the tour to Germany in July 2007. Only nine of these youngsters will be chosen.
The finalists were chosen at a previous competition and now the tension is mounting.
The “Gebrüder-Graun” music school of the Elbe-Elster region in the province of Brandenburg has invited its partner music school, the Frank Pietersen Music Centre, to send over a group of thirteen learners and three teachers in July 2007.
The group will attend all the 50 year celebrations of the German music school as well as taking part in a weekend festival of all the music schools of the Brandenburg Province.
The group will consist of string players and wind players. The African Percussion Ensemble will also be going along and the music centre is hoping to have music specially arranged for this unique combination of instruments so that they can take truly African music to Germany.
The competition starts Monday at 18:00 and will probably carry on until 21:00 (entry fee R2).
The African Percussion Ensemble, who were recently awarded the trophy for best orchestra/ensemble at the Paarl Valley Eisteddfod, will entertain the audience.
Refreshments will be for sale as well as the unique beaded instruments which are sold in aid of the tour fund.
Anybody who would like to make a contribution towards the tour fund is more than welcome. Contact the office (872- 2123).
