Votes for best wine on show

Cape Town’s fourth RMB WineX, the Rand Merchant Bank Wine Festival, held recently at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, attracted a crowd estimated at more than 9 000 wine enthusiasts.
Nearly 1 500 visitors completed ballots for the Best-Wine-On-Show Awards. The 2006 Best-White-Wine-On-Show Award went to first time winner, Cape Point Vineyards Isliedh 2005 – which won the Trophy for the best white wine and for the best wooded white blend at this year’s Trophy Wine Show.
The 2006 Best-Red-Wine-On-Show Award went to third time winner, De Toren Private Cellar’s Fusion V 2004, with Diemersfontein in second place and Val de Vie Shiraz in third place.
Also among the top 12 red wines were Andreas Shiraz 2004, Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2004, Lindhorst Statement 2003 and Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond 2002.
Local wines which were included in the top 12 white wines were Glen Carlou Chardonnay 2005 and Val de Vie Viognier 2006.
