Taxi driver campaign
2006-10-05
THE government’s #1 Taxi Driver Campaign aims to impact taxi driver behavior by reminding drivers of their responsibility to commuters and the larger community.
Commuters are able to vote for the driver of their choice. This year the programme ran in 33 taxi ranks over all nine provinces and attracted 18000d entries
The brandhouse #1 Taxi Driver Campaign 2006 has now entered the final phases with ten finalists who must each write a theory test devised by the National Department of Transport, The Road Traffic Management Corporation and the provincial departments of Community Safety and Transport.
The top three achievers in the theory test then proceed to the next level of assessment - the practical test. This test consisting of two parts, track evaluation and road evaluation, is conducted by provincial road test officials.
The winner is determined on final evaluation of scores from the practical and theoretical test.
The rank winners then proceed to the regional finals phase in which each driver is put through his/her paces in an advanced driving course.
During this course the drivers learn practical driver skills on accident prevention and skid control out on the track.
“Few drivers have the chance to learn and practice these advance driving skills. I learnt a lot and believe that I am a safer driver thanks to this course and the #1 Taxi Driver Campaign,” says one of the Eastern Cape regional finalists.
“I am a better driver now I have taken part in The brandhouse #1 Taxi Driver Campaign,” comments another, “I know that my passengers will now feel safer in my taxi when I’m driving even in the rain.”
This is what the third finalist says about the programme so far, “I have enjoyed today and have learnt so much. I am proud that I am one of the top drivers in my province. I hope I win as I want to go to Jozi and learn more driving skills and continue to become a better driver.”
