Somalis attacked

A SOMALIAN shop owner has been killed and another injured in two armed robberies in Mbekweni.
The first attack took place in Mpumelelo Road, OR, on Friday afternoon when two armed men entered Mizinyo 1 Cash and Carry store.
They demanded money from Abdenasir Fara and when he refused a shot was fired, striking him in the groin.
On Monday afternoon a similar incident occurred when three men entered a shop in Thembani Square. They demanded money and simultaneously fired shots at the owner Issack Ibrahim (32).
The men fled the scene empty-handed and Ibrahim was taken to Paarl Hospital in a serious condition.
He died on Tuesday morning due to the severity of his injuries. He was buried on the same day according to Muslim rites.
Ibrahim’s cousin, Ali Issack, said that the local Somalian community fears that the violence against them has spilt over from the senseless attacks which have taken place elsewhere in the province.
“Thirty-eight Somalians have been senselessly killed across the province in the last few months,” he said. “We fear for our lives on a daily basis and we feel that the government must do something to protect us.”
Four youths were arrested in connection with Friday’s attack, and it is not yet sure whether they can be linked to Monday’s murder.
