Bleak weekend for Paarl Cricket

2006-10-12

TRIPLE losses on Saturday meant a disappointing performance for the Novel Paarl Cricket Club on the second weekend of the new season.

Paarl’s first team travelled to Brackenfell on Saturday where they were humbled by the home team. The visitors were bundled out for a mere 115 runs.

Paarl were on the ropes in the 26th over with the score on 46/6.

Captain Lynal Jansen and Alfredo Adams added 37 runs for the seventh wicket before Adams (28 4x3) was sent packing with the score on 83.

Jansen ended his innings unbeaten with one boundary in his 40 runs.

Home team bowlers Willem du Toit (3/20), J Mong (4/13) and S Grobler (2/45) did the necessary damage.

Brackenfell’s innings started disastrously as Hilroy Paulse removed their opening pair in the first seven overs of the innings.

With the score on 68/5 Andy Corbellari and du Toit got together and pulled the home team through.

Corbellari (30 4x2, 6x1) and du Toit with an unbeaten 37 (4x4, 6x1) sealed the match for the home team in the 31st over.

Paarl II (129/10) had an equally disappointing result against Brackenfell II (247/8) at the Parys Grounds.

The fourth team also playing at home lost to Northdene Cricket Club by 93 runs.

This weekend Novel Paarl I (home) and II (away) clash with Stellenbosch & Districts Cricket Club. The fourth team travels to
Franschhoek Cricket Club.

The Paarl Cricket Club is having a meeting next Wednesday at 19:00
at the clubhouse where a supporters’ club will be established. All interested parties are welcome.

The next function takes place on 4 November at the clubhouse.
