THE players of Mbekweni United Football Club continued their good form in the SAB League this weekend when they beat both Idas Valley (3-1) and Maties (3-1) in two away matches.

Against Idas Valley, the Paarl team led 2-0 by half-time after captain Mzoli Bangani and Vusumzi Bolani scored.

In the second half the home team came back strongly scoring five minutes after play resumed.

The Mbekweni boys however absorbed the pressure well and in the 80th minute Elliot Gotyombe put the game out of reach of the home team when he found the back of the net.

Maties won their first two matches and were fired up to keep their unbeaten status.

The first half went by uneventful with no goals being scored.

Five minutes into the second half Maties scored their first goal following a lack of communication between the Mbekweni defence and their goalkeeper.

The Paarlites fought back though and were rewarded with a goal by Gotyombe ten minutes later, following a good low cross from left back, Sheperd Makroti.

Soon after substitute Sivuyile Tozo made it 2-1 for Mbekweni United.

Not content with a one goal buffer the visitors continued attacking which gave their hard working midfielder, Musa Majikijela, a shot at goal.

A chance he grabbed with both hands to make it a 3-1 victory for his team.

Mbekweni United are thus undefeated in the SAB League thus far.
In their first Mayoral Cup match Mbekweni United II won Eleven Ideas 2-1.

Strong wind played havoc when the football team of Double V United and Khayamandi Hotspurs met in their Castle League match in Paarl on Saturday.

The pumping wind caused the home team to score an own goal in the fifth minute when Breslin Moses’ header to goalkeeper Bevin Christiaan was misdirected into the back of the net.

Although the Paarlites launched several attacks, striker Elrich van der Westhuizen could not capitalise.

Late in the first half Double V was awarded a free kick. A Hotspurs attacker however intercepted the pass between Paul Israel and Nchaka Basang and blasted the ball past the keeper to make the half-time score 2-0.

With the wind in their backs it was a different story for Double V.

Instead of simply kicking away possession as they did in the first half they structured their attacks beter.

This gave van der Westhuizen the chance to score, whilst the introduction of Waqeem Abrahams saw the Paarl team’s play switch to a higher gear.

Abrahams was justly rewarded with a goal after taking a long range free kick and curling it past the keeper Aladuka Tembaleku to draw the match.

On Friday the second team of Double V United played in a group H round robin match of the Mayoral Cup Tournament against Juventus of Mbekweni.

The match which was played at Weltevrede Secondary also finished a 2-2 draw.

Double V II must still face Eleven Ideas and Mbekweni United in the Mayoral Cup.

The Castle League team will play Double Foot Shooters on Saturday in Worcester and will face Mighty Peace in Stellenbosch on Sunday.
