How and why we dream

LOCAL resident Prof Mark Solms, a world renowned neuroscientist, will talk on “How and why we dream” at Bridge House School on Monday 23 October at 19:30.
Solms is an international authority on the psychology and neurology of dreaming. He is a Professor of Neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. He also holds academic positions in New York and London.
Solms is the author of more than 200 scientific journal articles and five books. He is also the recipient of numerous awards, including the ‘International Psychiatrist of the Year’ Award of the American Psychiatric Association in 2001.
His talk will focus on why we dream, what would happen if we did not dream, and the meaning of dreams.
Professor Solms will review the well-known theories of dreaming, and will discuss them in the light of the latest scientific research about the dreaming brain.
The talk will be a fundraiser for the Bridge House School Parents’ Association. The cost is R75 (R50 for learners and students). Advance booking is advised.
