Soccer battle goes to court

Soccer battle goes to court

THE soccer club of Double V United is fighting for survival in the SAB League.

It is however not troubles on the soccer pitch that are hampering the Paarl club, but soccer politics.

The club of View of Hope of Worcester have taken Boland Safa to court in the hope of securing a place in the prestigious SAB League.
Double V and View of Hope both finished in eighth place in the respective SAB League play-off pools.

According to the rules these two teams then had to play each other for the final spot in the league.

After first losing 3-0 at home, and then winning their away match 3-0 against Hope of View, Double View qualified for the league with the rules stating that in case of a draw, the team with the most league points will qualify.

Double V with 58 points were better off here than View of Hope with 56.

View of Hope however are now stating that they still need to play three of their play-off matches that were postponed, which could give them the necessary points.

The circumstances surrounding these matches are questionable. View of Hope claims the matches were postponed within the rules of the competition, but the relevent clubs who they had to play against, tell a different story.

During a high court appearance earlier this month, the case was reverted back to Safa Western Cape. The judge ordered the body to sort out its own problems.

Safa Western Cape then heard the case before a disciplinary committee, and decided that a third and deciding match should be played.

View of Hope have appealed this decision. Double V is also not in favour of playing the claimants for a third time.

In the meanwhile all Double V’s SAB League matches have been postponed pending the outcome of the case.

Double V have already played five matches in the SAB League, but missed out on their clash with Jamestown last weekend. This weekend they were supposed to play Mbekweni United.

View of Hope’s appeal will possibly be heard over the weekend or early next week.
