THE first team of the Novel Paarl Cricket Club made heavy weather in beating neighbours Bergrivier Cricket Club on Saturday.

After restricting the home side to 157/9 Paarl struggled to get the winning runs.

For the home side, Adiel Cassiem (91 4x10) was their mainstay after being dropped with his score on 32.

Ultalyn Ernstzen (4/21) was the visitors’ main destroyer.

Early in the innings Carlo Crotz (51 4x5) and Dale Campbell (23 4x3) laid the foundation for the victory, but then the loss of three quick wickets left Paarl struggling on 126/7.

Alfredo Adams (7 not out 4x1) and Erentszen (22 not out 4x2, 6x1) saw them through to win by three wickets.

The home side’s E Petersen with figures of 4/38 nearly won the match for them.

On Sunday Paarl I (222/5) beat Primrose Cricket Club (221/9) of Western Province by five wickets.

Lyndon Fredericks (3/48), Cameron Cupido (87 in 116 balls 4x8, 6x1), Lynal Jansen (50 in 66 balls 4x5) and Zurich Muller (23 not out in 18 balls 4x3) helped to steer the home side to victory.

Paarl II (161) lost to their visitors from Bergrivier Cricket Club who scored the winning runs in the 29th over.

Paarl IV (154) lost to Easterns (324/8) of Kraaifontein by a massive 170 runs.
