THE last track meeting of the Yorkshire Cycling Club track league series took place at the Faure Street Stadium on Friday evening.

Cyclists competed for points over a period of three track meetings.
Friday night saw Wesley Bradshaw of Bellville taking honours in the open category, where the elite, junior and veteran riders competed.

Bradshaw also finished with a good performance winning the 1500m, and conquering third position in both the 10 laps and 30 laps scratch races.

Another rider who caught the eye with some aggressive riding was Verdi Farao (Team Liberty Life).

Farao was first in the 10 laps scratch and elimination races, third in the 1500m and second in the 30 laps scratch race.

Farao mainly trains on the road with the Liberty Life team and after the meeting on Friday, commented that he still needs to do some speed work.

In the u.16 category Clint Hendricks of local club Rhadsport came out tops.

Another youngster in the u.14 category, Wayne Botha of Tygerberg, had a great league series, winning eight out of the nine in the series. He also won the three u.14 races during Friday’s meet.

Bradwin Daniels (Rhadsport) was outstanding in the u.12 group and won all nine races in his category.

The Yorkshire Club also hosted some development events to promote the sport under the youngsters.

They could participate on the track with any kind of bicycle - even road bikes. All ages took part in these events that were organised on a handicap basis.

The Boland Cycling Union is hosting a Boland Open Omnimum Championship that will take place at Faure Street Stadium on Saturday, as well as 11, 18 en 25 November.

Cyclists will accumulate points over the four track meetings and at the end of the series prize money will be awarded, with the first three cyclists in each category receiving medals.

The first Omnimum event will start at 14:00 on Saturday and cyclists can register from 13:00. Enquiries: Ian Goetham 083-949-4501.
