Paarl Golf Club is open to all
2006-11-09
WITH reference to the letter by the concerned golfer in last week's issue, the club certainly does not try to keep a certain class of people away from the club.
The club is open to any person and the membership certainly reflects the composition of our society.
Unfortunately it is an expensive business to run a golf club. The club is a registered association not for gain and covers its expenses with its income, of which green fees is one element.
Paarl Golf Club has always welcomed visitors from all lifestyles and will continue to do so; unfortunately, members of clubs playing away from their home course will not enjoy reduced green fees, as these apply to members, and are subject to affiliated rates at other courses.
Winter Rates were put into effect from May through to the end of September to facilitate members of other courses to experience various courses at reduced rates. This has always been well received by the golfing public.
A recent study conducted by the Club Managers Association of South Africa found that Paarl Golf Club was well positioned within the golfing fraternity with regards green fees.
Only Rondebosch (R190) and Bellville (R180) charge less while Pearl Valley charges R595.
The Paarl Golf Club in fact is not overpriced, is not trying to chase people away and is certainly not in any way attempting to be an elitist club. Our commitment to ensuring that Paarl is an affordable facility remains a priority focus for us.
We were recently awarded Gold category status by Compleat Golfer. Here they take into account the facility, pricing, playability and condition of the course, which ultimately covers the overall experience of the golfer.
We believe that we will continue to provide a quality product at an affordable market related price to all. We look forward to welcoming all at Paarl Golf Club.
