THE Drakenstein Municipality has invited developers and financial institutions to submit proposals to Council regarding affordable housing projects on selected land made available by the Municipality.

The properties involved are erf 17091 in Dalweide, Paarl (a section of 2,6 hectares in Jan van Riebeeck Drive, near the Dal Josaphat Stadium), erf 23674 Paarl (2,7 hectares behind the Paarl East swimming pool) and erf 557 Mbekweni (5,8 hectares between Desmond Tutu Secondary and the petrol service station in Mbekweni).

The development projects are aimed at allowing the private sector to tackle the construction of economic housing on land which will be transferred from the Municipality to the individual owners on completion, with the assistance of banking institutions.

Documents containing locality plans and relevant information may be obtained at the property administration section at Paarl Civic Centre (807-4621 or email pieterst@drakenstein.gov.za).

Proposals must be submitted before 17:00 on Thursday 30 November.

A visual presentation must be presented to the Council at a future date.

* Another housing development is in the pipeline in the Newton vicinity which could address the local housing shortage.

An application for rezoning to develop 150 re- sidential erven of about 320 square metres each south-east of Newton, has been made to the Municipality.

The land is currently the property of the Halima Trust and the Osman family. The applicant is Jonathan Holtmann & Associates.
