Mountain Walk becomes more popular

THE Drakenstein Hospice Walk has continually grown since its inception in 2001 and this year saw 885 participants taking part.
The event includes a 22km Mountain Walk, as well as a 11km, 8km and 3km walk.
Teams of two walkers competed in the mountain walk. The team of Two Cousins, consisting of Carlo-Roy Carolissen and Charlton-John Ontong, won the men’s category and were also the overall winners in 2:53:59.
They were followed by Niklas Tiras and Joslyn Afrika of Clever Designs (2:54:17) and Alistair Kannemeyer.
The next team across the finish line was Die Bergies, Ludwig Ebersohn and Shantelle Kotze. They not only secured third spot overall, but also won the Mixed Team category.
They were followed by Lelanie van der Merwe and Johan Ebersohn of Creepy Crawlies (3:15:20).
The Ou Ballies team of Ivan Katts and Johan Grobbelaar won the veteran’s category in 3:26:40, whilst the women’s category was won by Lizelle du Plessis and Gerry Muller of Girls Rock Team (3:32:40).
The winner in the 11km were Rudi Blouw (1:13:30 in 11km), followed by Uwe Strack (1:13:31) and Nathan Smith (1:16:22).
Twaan Diedericks won the 8km, with Chriszando Jacobs and Maree Blom second and third respectively.
