Local riders impress WP selectors

THE biggest contingent of this year’s Western Province equestrian tentpegging teams is made up of local riders.
Fourteen of the 20 team members in the u.14 and three u.19 teams are from schools in Paarl or Wellington.
Members of the u.14 team are Pietje Stander (Hugenote), and Berno Meintjies and Ignas Marx (reserve), both of Boland Landbouskool.
In the u.19C team are AJ Mouton, Manus Marais (Boland Landbou) and Analize Gouws (Paarl Gymnasium).
The u.19B team is captained by Boland Landbou’s Anlo Schietekat, with schoolmate Mouton a reserve for this team. Also riding here are Ingrid Steenkamp (Paarl Girls’ High) and Paarl Boys’ High’s WJ Smith.
The WP A team includes Fritz Meintjies and Jimmy Wiggins (both Boland Landbou) and Aimee Steenkamp (Paarl Girls’ High). The team is captained by Karel du Toit, also of Boland Landbou.
These teams will compete in the SA Interprovincial Junior Championships at Kleinplasie, Worcester, in December.
