Tops in wine tourism

TWO local wineries were close contenders in the 2006 Great Wine Capitals Global Network Best of Wine Tourism competition. They are Vrede & Lust (Architecture category) and Grand Provence (Wine Tourism Restaurant category).
The six winners of the Cape event which go through to the international competition are (from Stellenbosch) the Devon Valley Hotel (Best Accommodation), Terroir at Klein Zalza (Best Wine Tourism Restaurants) and Zevenwacht (Significant Wine Tourism Experience) and (from the Helderberg) Vergelegen (Best for both Art and Culture and Architecture), as well as Lourensford (Best Parks, Gardens and Environment).
Judged by well-known specialists in each category, the local winners will now be evaluated by an international panel of representatives from the global network to decide an overall winner.
The other countries participating in the event are France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Australia, the USA and Argentina.
