THE new Shoprite supermarket in the Mbekweni Mall in Jan van Riebeeck Drive opens today.

The store, with modern fittings, wide aisles and airconditiong, will have a floor size of 2125 square metres.

Apart from offering residents the convenience of a Shoprite store on their doorsteps, this supermarket also creates job opportunities for some 100 people, most of whom have been drawn from the local communities.

Other stores in the shop include a liquor outlet, cosmetics, butchery, banking, shoes, video outlet, fast food, biltong shop, sweet shop, cellphone shops, fashion clothing, mini-loans and post office.

Shoprite will offer an extensive range of groceries and non-foods, and service departments such as a bakery, fruit and vegetable department, a delicatessen with hot prepared meals, a butchery, and a wine department.

At the Money Market counter clients can do telephone and electricity account payments, transfer cash to family or friends, buy mobile phone and Telkom phone cards, Lotto tickets, pay TV licences, and buy gift vouchers and bus tickets.

The Money Market will also offer a Computicket facility where customers can book tickets for sports and music events, concerts and shows.

The supermarket, managed by Jacques Alexander, will trade from 08:00 to 19:00 on Mondays to Thursdays, 08:00 to 20:00 on Fridays, 08:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays, and 09:00 to 14:00 on Sundays.
