Police actions shock

Police actions shock

2006-11-23

AT 12:12 on Friday 3 November I was sitting in traffic at the intersection of Lady Grey and Breda Street in Paarl.

When traffic started moving, I was shocked to see a police vehicle coming from the direction of the station, pull halfway up on the kerb and park next to KFC.

Two uniformed officers were in the vehicle. The driver got out and went into KFC to stand in the queue for “take aways” on the lunch hour.

I could not believe my eyes to see what message is sent out to all other drivers and our future divers with such blatant offence.

Is this not exactly why law and order is totally out of control in our precious country?

I used to be under the impression that the citizens complaining about our police force were exaggerating and being petty, but after this incident, I feel we have all the right to complain.

It looks like the people trusted and trained to uphold law and order, are the ones breaking it and getting away with it too.

I can only think what kind of fine a normal citizen would get for this same offence.

Other offences by officials like talking on the cellphone while driving, not wearing safety belts, double parking and speeding, are common.

As a kid we use to be afraid of police officers and respected them. I personally do not think that this is the case today.
