Construction takes off at Val de Vie

Construction takes off at Val de Vie

2006-11-23

THE foundations of the first residential home at the exclusive Winelands Lifestyle Estate, Val de Vie, are due to be laid this week.

This ambitious R2 billion development on the so called ‘platinum mile’ between Wemmershoek and Paarl, is quickly gaining momentum with the impressive gatehouse and the polo pavilion fast nearing completion.

Passersby on the Wemmershoek road are unaware of this giant project which is taking place in the heart of Drakenstein, on the bank of the Berg River.

Less than two years after the launch of the development, 450 of the 550 stands ranging from 600 to 1500m2 in size, have already been sold at prices ragning from R2,4 million to R4 million.

According to Rolf Thielen (general manager), buyers from especially the northern parts of the country, as well as foreigners, are flocking to acquire a piece of Val de Vie.

The whole concept of the estate is unique to South Africa, with the combination of a wine estate, polo fields, a boutique hotel, a lifestyle centre, as well as trout lakes.

An annual international polo tournament is being planned on two world class polo fields which have been established at a cost of R6 million each. This is sure to boost tourism to the Drakenstein area.

Only one third of the total area of the development has been demarcated for residential use, while the rest of the area will be actively used for agricultural and recreational purposes.

Not only will residents enjoy a monthly wine quota from the cellar, but they will also be able to produce their own wines in the boutique cellar.

R450 million has been set aside for the infrastructure and landscaping, making this the largest sum of money spent on amenities at any estate in South Africa.

Apart from the ample village parks and greens which will give residents a true feel of country living, an avenue is being planned which is designed along the same lines as the famous gardens of Versailles.

The first residents are due to move in within the first half of 2007.
