THE Department of Transport and Public Works has released a plot at the corner of De Villiers and Dirkie Uys Street in Franschhoek as part of an ambitious “Women in Property” programme to help women from disadvantaged backgrounds gain a foothold in the Western Cape’s lucrative property industry.
Black businesswomen with an interest in property valued at R3,4 million have been urged by Transport and Public Works MEC Marius Fransman to tender for the land, which is located on the corner of De Villiers and Dirk Uys Streets.
The 6730 square metre property, which is situated in a well-located middle income residential area, is presently zoned as “educational”.
Tender documents are available from the department at Room 701, 7th floor, 9 Dorp Street in Cape Town. Tenders close on 7 December.
Fransman said that the key to the success of the programme, would be a series of mentorship and training interventions.
