KWV wine in Top Ten

2006-11-30

KWV’s 2005 Cathedral Cellar Chardonnay has just been rated as one of the Top 10 Chardonnays produced in South Africa at the prestigious Diner’s Club Winemaker Awards.

The same wine was the “Best in Class” and won a silver medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC).

KWV Cathedral Cellar is KWV’s ultra-premium brand and since its launch in the early 1990’s, it has received more than 60 international and South African medals and accolades for its outstanding quality and consistency.

The 2005 Chardonnay, placed fifth in this competition, was crafted by Tania Joubert, the winemaker responsible for KWV’s white wines.

The grapes come from the Coastal Region with its ideal Mediterranean-style climate.

They were selected from a special vineyard and pressed in a bag press to extract maximum flavour. Thereafter barrel maturation in French oak took place for nine months in the famous Cathedral Cellar that is both the physical and spiritual home of the brand.

In addition to this recognition, KWV’s wines have received eight silver and three bronze medals at local and international competitions this year.

Its famous brandies have been awarded three gold, four silver and two bronze medals at leading events in 2006.
