TWO local restaurants have shone in the Eat Out Jonnie Walker Restaurant of the Year awards.

They are Reuben’s and Bread and Wine, both of Franschhoek, which are both among the top ten restaurants of the year

These are the restaurants that in the opinion of the judges, three highly respected members of the South African hospitality industry, rose above the pack of 16, which had been submitted by national reviewers.

The top award of Restaurant of the Year went to Terroir at De Zalze (Stellenbosch).

The chef of the year was George Jardine of Jardine’s in Cape Town.
The elegant occasion also marked the launch of the 2007 edition of Eat Out – The Restaurant Guide of South Africa.

The judges, industry food alchemist Peter Goffe-Wood, Letitia Prinsloo, founder of the Institute of Culinary Arts and Vice President of the SA Chefs Association Arnold Tanzer, visited each nominated restaurant unannounced and evaluated the ability of chefs and restaurants to create that special experience that gives added pleasure to diners.
