Conservationists should register for heritage

Conservationists should register for heritage

2005-05-05

HERITAGE Western Cape, the Western Cape’s provincial heritage resource management authority, has extended an invitation to bona fide conservation bodies to register their interest in a geographical area; or a category of heritage resources, by 20 May.

Those conservation bodies wishing to register their interest to take part in this process must, however, have the capacity to comment timeously on matters referred to them by Heritage Western Cape or by applicants regarding applications for permits and/or planning matters affecting heritage resources in the Western Cape.

Accountability

Conservation bodies who wish to register, must complete the official application form and submit it, together with other required documentation, including the constitution of the conservation body, which should clearly set out the stated aims and objectives of the conservation body.

It should also indicate the area of operation of the conservation body, the structure of the body and the accountability of members and decision-making processes within the conservation body, operational procedures with regard to meetings, approved minutes of meetings of the executive of the conservation body, approved minutes of the annual general meetings, a copy of the latest annual report, a list of members of the conservation body; and any additional pertinent information.

Registration of an interest with Heritage Western Cape is for a period of five years, whereafter registration will lapse unless it is renewed.
Application forms can be obtained from Lorelle Hutton at 483-9696, by e-mail from lmhutton@pgwc. gov.za, or on the website www. capegateway.co.za/
