Paarl humiliates Coronations
2006-12-07
A BLISTERING bowling performance by Hilroy Paulse saw Novel Paarl Cricket Club beat Pniel Coronation by a comfortable margin.
The first team hosted Coronations at home and could only manage to score 176 all out after the top three batsmen laid the platform for the middle order to put up a decent score.
Their efforts were in vain however as the middle order staged a collapse that set the visitors an easy target to win the match.
Openers Godfrey Stevens and Cameron Cupido put 65 runs on the scoreboard before Cupido lost his wicket with the score on 65.
Cupido showed no respect for the visiting bowlers as he bludgeoned seven boundaries and one six in his innings of 43 runs.
Dale Campbell joined Stevens and shared a second wicket partnership of 50 runs. Stevens scored 42 runs, which included six boundaries while Campbell also scored six boundaries in his innings of 45 runs.
The home side lost their last eight wickets with the addition of only 60 runs.
Jacques van Wyk (2/17), Colin Myburgh (2/37) and P Petersen (3/17) made things difficult for the batsmen.
It looked like an easy win for the visitors with inform Henry Davids (Boland and Cape Cobras) in their line-up, but Paulse, who just played his last match for Paarl had other ideas.
His blistering pace got rid of Davids in the third over of the visitors’ innings when Ockert Erasmus took a brilliant catch in the point region.
The wheels of Coronation started to fall off as they lost another three wickets with only 27 runs on the scoreboard.
Pniel lost their next six wickets with the addition of only 30 runs. None of the batsmen could get to grips with the pace of Paulse who took 7/21 in 10,1 overs.
Lyndon Fredericks also chipped in with 2/7 in three overs.
The second team travelled to Pniel to play Coronations II.
The home side scored 233/10 after being in trouble at 106/6. André Robyn (69 4x7), D van Wyk (44 4x7) and E Cyster (33 not out 4x3, 6x2) made it possible for the home side to reach a decent score.
Clayton August (2/53) and Robin Andrews (2/27) troubled the batsmen early on, whilst spinners Rohan Goetham (2/64) and Faghrie Jacobs (2/55) wrapped up the home side’s innings.
Hilton Solomon (87 4x8, 6x4) and Wade Anderson (57 4x6) ensured a victory of three wickets for the visitors.
E Cyster (4/49) was the homeside’s best bowler.
The third team hosted Spes Bona of Stellenbosch and scored a massive 313/5.
Peter-John de Villiers (77 4x10), Marco Walters (72 4x6), Christo Plaatjies (49 4x5, 6x2) and Francois Daniels (32 not out 4x5) were the mainstay of the homeside’s innings.
Spes Bona was all out for 139 runs in 25 overs.
Basil Petersen (3/23) and Marco Walters (3/41) were the bowlers who demolished the visitors ensuring a 174 run victory for Paarl.
The fourth team was victorious against the visitors of Wellington Cricket Club’s third team beating them by three wickets.
Paarl I (away) and II (home) are playing Wellington Cricket Club on Saturday, the third team is away to Easterns Cricket Club of Kraaifontein whilst the fourth team travels to the Stellenbosch & Districts Cricket Club.
