Golden Kaan grows wine market
2006-12-14
GOLDEN KAAN, the joint venture brand produced by KWV of South Africa and Racke of Germany, and marketed world wide by the Golden Kaan Company, has shown phenomenal growth since it was launched at Vinexpo in France in June 2003. Golden Kaan was launched into South Africa in March 2005, thereby introducing the brand to its place of origin. Growth began slowly, but sales have increased, most notably in Gauteng.
Sales of the brand increased by 50% in 2005 over the 2003 figures with a huge increase of almost 500% in the past year (2005/06). Golden Kaan represents a South African “umbrella brand” that, due to its three ranges and the product offering within each range, satisfies both the spectrum of consumer tastes and all types of diverse distribution demands.
Since its release in 2003, over 900 000 9-litre cases or ten million bottles have been sold. It has established itself as one of the most successful SA wines in its three years of existence and acts as a role model for the SA industry.
Current key markets are Germany, Poland, Russia, The Netherlands, Réunion island, Kenya and South Africa.
* The 2001 vintage of Perold, the icon wine of KWV, has received a top rating (92%) in Canada’s leading wine publication, Wine Access.
The wine is produced entirely from Shiraz grapes that come from a small, Perold-designated vineyard on Paarl Mountain.
