Entries pouring in for MTB Challenge

Entries pouring in for MTB Challenge

2006-12-14

FAT tyre fanatics who have not yet entered the sixth annual Cape Argus Pick ’n Pay Mountain Bike Challenge taking place on 4 March, must hurry, as only a limited number of entries are still available.

This comes after pre-entries into this popular annual race - which takes riders through the picturesque Boschendal Wine Estate - have reached record highs and an increase of over 500% compared with this time last year.

“Riders can usually still enter on race day, but looking at the great response we have received so far, we would like to urge everybody to secure their entries as early as possible to avoid disappointment,” says Arina Botha, co-organiser of the Mountain Bike Challenge.

“We limit the number of entries to 2000 riders only to avoid overcrowding on the trails and to give all riders the best possible riding experience. And if we reach the quota before race day, entries will close.”

Preceding the Cape Argus Pick ’n Pay Cycle Tour, the Mountain Bike Challenge offers quality mountain biking to participants of all ages, skill and fitness levels.

Riders can choose one of three routes - the flat and shady 13km fun ride which is geared towards families, children and beginners; the adventurous and popular 26km route; or the 55km marathon for hardcore riders with muscles of steel.

Riders can pre-enter online by visiting www.mtbchallenge.co.za or in person at the Dirtopia Trail Centre, situated on the Delvera Farm on the R44 between Klapmuts and Stellenbosch.

Pre-entrants will enjoy discounted entry fees and will receive a race pack on the day of the race.

Starting positions will be on a first come, first served basis, except for A-group riders in the 55km challenge, where 150 riders will be seeded according to ability.
