Boland hosts u.19 cricket week

2006-12-14

ALTHOUGH the Boland province’s hosting of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola u.19 cricket week will centre around Stellenbosch, some of these matches will also be played in Paarl.

The 13th annual u.19 Week kicks off tomorrow night with an opening ceremony at Paul Roos Gymnasium.

In total, sixteen provincial teams will compete for the trophy and will be divided into the Platinum and Gold Groups.

Individual players will hope to be included in the SA u.19 team that will travel internationally in 2007.

At the culmination of the tournament, a selected South African Schools XI will play against a Boland XI and the SA Colts will play a Boland Invitational XI on Thursday 21 December.

The 16 teams include South Western Districts, Boland, Border, Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng, Griqualand West, Kei Cricket Board, KZN Inland, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northerns, North West, Western Province and Eastern Province.
Most of the matches will be played in Stellenbosch, but on Monday Paarl will host five games.

WP and KZN play at the Parys A field, with North West and Mpumalanga taking each other on the adjacent B field.

At the Dal Josaphat Stadium Easterns and KZN Inland clash, whilst SWD and Kei play on the B field.

Border and Griquas face each other on the field of Paarl East Cricket Club in New Orleans.

The cricket club of Pniel Coronations will play host to Northerns and Eastern Province.

The fixtures for the Boland team who plays in the Platinum group and which includes seven local players including the kaptain from Paarl Boys High, Tennyson Botes, are Border (Saturday, Tassies Oval), Western Province (Sunday, Main Oval), Gauteng (Monday, Oude Libertas), Easterns (Tuesday, Stellenbosch & Districts) and Northerns (Thursday, Main Oval).

All the matches start at 09:45.

Last year’s tournament, hosted in East London, was won by Western Province after the team won all five their games.
