Death leaves a void

DR DON PARKIN’s death (Paarl Post, 14 December) left a big void. Don was a brilliant man who had a prestigious academic career.
He excelled in Medicine, Science and Mathe-matics and won world acclaim for his work in the field of Tuberculosis. He published in every prestigious Medical and Scientific Journal in the world.
He solved a mathematical problem that was left unresolved in 1903 in France.
He has been noted in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World for the last 10 years, and appointed International Scientist of the Year by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England 2002.
Don worked as Senior Specialist, Head of Toxicology and Lecturer for the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, for 26 years.
He also held the Honored position as Head of the Ethics Committee, Stellenbosch University for many years.
He emigrated to Canada where he decided to work as a family physician.
He worked in Chetwynd, BC for a year and at a Medical Arts Centre, Nanaimo for a few months, when his career and life were cut short by an illness.
He was a loving and unpretentious man, with many outside interests. His family mourns him deeply. Jean
