REFLECTIONS on a Decade of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is a new exhibition on the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that can be seen at the Iziko South African National Gallery from 4 April through to end 2006.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was set up in 1995, based on the Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act, No 34 of 1995.
Operating through three committees, the commission commenced its hearings in 1996 and dealt with approximately 21 000 cases of torture and abuse.
This exhibition does so in a direct and specific way in works such as “Four Killed” by Kitskonstabels, “Grahamstown” by Steve Hilton-Barber, the “Death of Hector Petersen” by Rose Kgoete and “Nineteen Boys Running” by Kevin Brand.
All works are from the permanent collection of the Iziko South African National Gallery. Enquiries at 467-4660.
