Journey for Sight 'n Service
2006-12-20
THE Santé Wellness Centre Journey for Sight ‘n Service will be the first road ride for 2007, providing the perfect platform for Cape Argus/Pick ‘n Pay cyclists in training.
The race takes place on Sunday 7 January, and not only is it a good way to get in shape for the Argus, but also to make a difference in the lives of the visually impaired.
As part of their corporate social investment initiative for 2007, Santé Winelands Hotel and Wellness Centre have involved themselves in this project which finances cataract operations for indigent persons through the Lion’s District 410A (Western Cape and Namibia) cataract surgery project.
Funds generated from this race will also be used for various projects like camps for children suffering from diabetes and training guide dogs for visually impaired individuals.
Funds from the race will also be used to support blind massage therapists, in training, from the Pioneer School for the Blind in Worcester.
Santé has been provided the financial support needed to convert the text books required for this course into Braille.
The first three students recently graduated at an event held at Cadeaux, the organic wellness restaurant at Santé.
The main race is a total of 75km and the shorter route 35km.
The race begins at the Cape Academy and continues over Ou Kaapse Weg, on to Cape Point and finishes once again at the Academy.
There will be lucky draw prizes on the day including an overnight stay at Santé Hotel and Wellness Centre.
