Dewdale lives on
2007-01-11
SHOCK waves rippled through the angling world when Dewdale Trout farm was expropriated to make way for flooding of the upper reaches of the Berg River near Franschhoek, once the Berg River Dam is completed.
Dewdale is the largest trout farm in the Cape and produces close to 250 tons of trout annually.
The fear for Dewdale’s shutdown was however temporary, as they have now moved to a more convenient site on La Roche farm.
The new site is being leased and is currently undergoing intensive upgrading to match up to the high standards of the previous Dewdale trout farm.
Fly-fishing instructor Maxi Hugo said that, although the farm still needs a lot of work, the new venue has an excellent location.
“All the fish have been moved and we have added salmon to the selection.
“The fact that we now have got one big dam immediately improves the quality of our fish.”
The dam is being deepened by six metres and new buildings such as a coffee-shop will be built.
According to Hugo the fly-fishing clinics will continue and the venue promises to offer all fishing enthusiasts top class facilities.
