Hospital project to be completed by May 2009

PAARL HOSPITAL’S R250-million facelift will take about three years to complete.
After the renovations, it will boast a capacity of 327 beds - up from the present 250.
Said Transport and Public Works MEC Marius Fransman recently, “So far, we have spent R45-million on the renovation and expansion project, which started about six months ago, and should be finished by May 2009”.
Staffers have also warmly welcomed a planned 10-bed psychiatric unit and an eight-bed High Care unit, which also form part of the upgrade.
Fransman insists that all Transport and Public Works projects should contain a job creation element - in terms of the Western Cape government’s “Grow the Cape” philosophy.
“We expect 3 000 jobs to be created over the duration of the renovations,” he said.
Paarl Hospital is classified as a regional facility, which means that it serves more than 600 000 people living in the Winelands area, as well as a range of towns on the West Coast and parts of its interior.
