Clark exhibition

2005-05-12

THE paintings of Haven Clark, who was head of the Jack Meyer Art Centre in Paarl for 13 years, will be exhibited along with the sculptures of Desireé Brand at the Wellington Museum next week.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 19 May, and will run until 4 June.

Haven spent his formative years in Transkei, which engendered a love for landscape painting.

He is currently working as independent artist, specialising in landscape painting with a specific focus on interpretations of Namaqualand and its environs.

Desireé Brand studied sculpture from 1976 for three years at the Cape Technikon under tutelage of Mitford-Barberton.

Her works are figurative and include works done in cement fondu, ceramic, wood and bronze.

The cement fondu sculptures can be described as a search for the realistic description of living form whilst at the same time portraying the artist’s perception of the model’s character or psyche.

The bronze sculptures are as impressionistic study of form. The ceramic work, though realistic, has an element of design and stylisation.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 19 May at 19:00. To attend, contact Ansie van Vuuren of the Museum at 873-4710.
