IN their opening match of the SAB League’s second round, Mbekweni United played Idas Valley at home on Saturday.

The visitors started the match with a blistering pace taking the game to their hosts.

Solid defending and good goal-keeping from the Mbekweni team, weathered the onslaught well.

Mbekweni was the first to draw blood towards the end of the first half, when striker Elliot Gotyombe found the back of the net.

In the second half the dam broke. Idas Valley succumbed to the pressure of the home team in a big way with Mbekweni scoring a further seven goals to ensure a great 8-0 victory.

Mbekweni United’s neighbours, Cosmos, travelled to Kayamandi in Stellenbosch to play against Mighty Five Stars.

Cosmos won the match 2-0 to put pressure to the log leaders, Mbekweni United.

On Sunday Mbekweni United travelled to Worcester to play against the newly included side in the SAB League, View of Hope.

The match took place in Zwelethemba due to the unavailability of the Esselen Park fields.

The Paarl team again looked good from the onset, with captain Mzoli Bangani scoring in the 15th minute.

Soon thereafter, striker Elliot Gotyombe added the second goal. In the 40th minute, Gotyombe notched up his second goal to make it 3-0.

View of Hope scored just before half time.

In the second half the Paarlites again accelerated their efforts scoring a further six goals.

Gotyombe was the star of the game with four goals to his credit.
