Wine accolades
2007-01-18
THE latest single varietal Shiraz by Fairview Wine and Cheese estate in Paarl continues to muster accolades.
The 2004 Fairview Solitude Shiraz was recently awarded a five-star rating in the 2007 Platter Guide, one of only ten wines in the dry red category to receive this coveted status.
For the 2004 vintage, the Fairview winemaking team reduced the quantity of Solitude Shiraz produced and increasingly focused on premium quality.
According to winemaker Anthony de Jager, the gravel-like, decomposed shale soils of Paarl allow Shiraz to ripen without irrigation, which produces wines of great concentration.
The 2003 Solitude Shiraz took gold medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and the Sant‚ Classic Wine Trophy show.
The 2004 vintage was one of only five Shiraz to receive a five- star rating in the 2007 Platter guide and was also awarded a gold medal at Santé and scored 90 points in the highly influential US Wine Spectator magazine.
