2005-05-12
THE Western Cape championships of the Tirisano Schools Choral Eisteddfod will be held at Artscape on 27, 28 and 29 May for senior primary and junior and senior secondary choirs.
The schools will be competing in solo sections for soprano, mezzo-soprano or contralto, tenor as well as baritone or bass voice parts, duets, small ensembles, female voice choirs, male voice choirs and mixed choirs. Choirs are limited to a maximum of 60 voices.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Eisteddfod’s inception. It is a joint venture between the Department of Education (DoE) and First National Bank (FNB).
Since its initiation, the competition has worked towards unifying previously fragmented school music competitions and has evolved to become the largest schools choral music event in the country.
The Eisteddfod is one event the learners look forward to every year and each year heralds improvement.
