Mbekweni United performs well
2007-01-25
On Saturday Mbekweni travelled to Stellenbosch to play Nietvoorbij.
It was clear from the beginning that Nietvoorbij wanted to avenge the 6-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of the visitors in the first round fixture.
The home team was however disappointed when the Mbekweni team scored first through striker, Sivuyile Tozo. This brought more panic to the Stellenbosch team’s defence as they conceeded a second goal through the same player.
Just before the end of the first half, the host hit back to make it 2-1 at the break.
In the second half inform striker, Elliot Gotyombe, found the back of the net twice.
A concilation goal for Nietvoorbij made the end score 4-2.
On Sunday Mbekweni United played host to Maties, who were hammered 5-0 on the same field the previous day by Cosmos.
The match was played in unbearable heat and as expected was not very entertaining as both teams appeared to be highly affected by the weather.
Mbekweni United however appeared to be more determined and won the match 2-0, with goals by Luyanda Nombeleko and Vusumzi Bolani.
Cosmos continued to put pressure on the log leaders, Mbekweni United. They won their match against the University of Stellenbosch 5-0 and thrashed Idas Valley 8-0 on Sunday.
The results of their matches has put the two Mbekweni teams firmly in the driving seat to contend for the log leader position.
